Just as we require food to survive, so does your lawn! We recommend fertilizing your lawn four times per year. More fertilizer may be required in areas of heavy traffic, where heavy watering is practiced and/or where grass clippings are removed.
Lawn fertilizers contain nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). The numbers on each bag of fertilizer indicate the percentage of each of these plant nutrients.
These numbers represent Colour – Roots – Vitamin / Stem.
Young Sod Farms sells the Scott’s Edgeguard Deluxe Fertilizer spreader.
Here are the recommended settings with this spreader and our different kinds of fertilizer: 10-6-4 setting 8 or 9, 21-7-7 setting 8, 5.5-26-30 setting 6.
To ensure even coverage, apply half of the required amount in perpendicular directions. NEVER apply fertilizer when the grass is wet. Avoid fertilizing during periods of drought, high temperatures and stress. Apply before a rain or water fertilizer, if possible.
For a newly installed lawn, we recommend our root starter fertilizer (5.5-26-30) to be applied on the soil below the sod or it can be broadcasted on top of the new sod. Water will activate the fertilizer. Continue to fertilize the new lawn following our schedule.
For an established lawn, follow our Fertilization Schedule to feed your lawn a minimum of 4 times per year.
